Leo Zabinsky, age 94, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
Leo was born in Dexter, MI at home on Beach road on June 3rd, 1926 to John & Bessie Zabinsky; he was one of seven children. He is survived by his brother, several nieces and nephews, and their families, along with several friends. His niece Nancy and husband Jim provided a comfortable home and fantastic loving care during his final years. |
Leo served in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII as a Machinist Mate onboard the USS Cabot (1945-1946). After his service he moved to CA where he met and married his wife Betty, who passed in 1994. They had two daughters that have both passed away, Nancy J and step-daughter Carol A.
Leo worked in CA until 1966 when he and his family moved back to his Dexter MI childhood home. |
There he planted his first blueberry bushes in the late 1960's to open Zabinsky Blueberry Farm. He also working as a tool & die maker at Rockwell Int'l. in Chelsea. After he retired in 1985 he devoted himself to the blueberry farm. He made the blueberry farm a favorite and special place for thousands of customers from around the country. In 1998 he sold the farm and has generously providing guidance and expertise for the past 23 years. The blueberry farm continues to this day in his footsteps.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring with honor guard. |
